Canine Good Citizen Test
The Canine Good Citizen Test is an AKC Title for purebreds but is also a certificate available for mixed breeds. It is a ten-step test that certifies and rewards a dog that exhibits good canine manners. These manners must be displayed in all situations including at home, in public, and around other people and their pets. CGC testing is available for all dogs regardless of age or breed. The test includes:
- Accepting a friendly stranger
- Sitting politely for petting
- Appearance and grooming
- Out for a walk
- Walking through a crowd
- Sit/Down/Stay on command
- Coming when called
- Reaction toward another dog
- Reaction to distractions
- Supervised separation
